More on Diagnostic Sleep Study

A Diagnostic Sleep study, also known as polysomnography, is a test performed at a sleep centre lab that records brain waves, heart rate, breathing, blood oxygen levels, eye movements, and leg movements and is used to diagnose sleep disorders and identifies if or when your sleep patterns are disrupted and why. This type of study may also be used to adjust treatment plans in patients who've already been diagnosed with sleep a sleep disorder.

More on Titration/Split Study

A CPAP Titration study is an overnight sleep test where a CPAP machine is used to treat patients diagnosed with sleep apnea. The patient's breathing is monitored and CPAP pressure is adjusted accordingly to prevent upper airway blockage. A split-night sleep study is when both a Diagnostic Sleep study and CPAP Titration study is performed on the same night. The split night study determines a patient's PAP settings during the same night without them having to come back another night for another test.

More about Diagnostic home study

This type of test uses a monitoring device to record your breathing patterns while you sleep and is used only to diagnose sleep apnea. Unlike a diagnostic sleep study, this test can be taken from the comfort of your home and it costs less. The patient receives training from a qualified technician on how to use the equipment, which usually consists of a Pulse Oximeter, Nasal Cannula, and a Respiratory Effort Sensor Belt. At home sleep tests are not as detailed as a diagnostic sleep study since it only measures breathing.
